For the last few years Sarathkumar instead of donning lead roles was acting only in important roles. Now he has been signed for the lead role in the film titled Velachery. Director Vendhan had written the story and screenplay of Velachery based on a police encounter that has taken place few years ago. Iniya will be pairing with Sarathkumar in this film. Director Vendhan while speaking said, " Velachery is a real story. I have written the screen play based on a real police encounter that took place some years ago. Though, films based on police stories have come, no one have not made a film based on police encounters. Hence I felt that my first film should be based on police encounter. Sarathkumar has donned the role of a police officer in many films. The audience will also accept him in that role. He was impressed with the story and gave his nod immediately."
